Eritrean Tewahdo monasteries have been one of the first of its kind, next to that of Copts, when, out of the African continent as a whole. They are the pillars for sound and correct teaching of the Tewahdo Orthodox Church.  As a continuation of this rich history, the Convent of St. Demiana was opened in the year of 2016 in Eritrea. The goal of the St. Demiana convent is a continuous life filled with prayer. While praying for all of us, they also work 9 hours of the day to provide the following service to the Holy Church through: 

• Sewing clergy vestments [starting from deacon to Patriarch]

• Sewing different types of Curtain for Church with different Iconography

• Painting and carving wooden Crosses 

• Translating different spiritual books and giving different religious courses 

In addition to the above tasks, consistent with the teaching of the Apostle Jude saying, “And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh [Jude 1:22-23]. St. Demiana serves by:  

• Taking care of orphans and the elderly

• Tending to the ill through opening a clinic 

• Guiding young women to lead their family’s to a true Christian life 

• Many other serves

The above objectives and plans have been started partially. Even though St. Demiaina’s convent has started, this is a holy objective we all should participate in, partaking of the abundant blessings of St. Demiana. We should enter into blessed labors of our holy Mother/St. Demiana Nun’s and through helping them carry the above tasks to have the blessing and intercession of St. Demiana. We ask this in the name of St. Demiana.
